It’s not because I’m unable to commit to yes or no. (I have many vices, committing is not one of them).
Rather, in my 30ish years, I’ve committed (and overcommitted) too quickly and simply executed, tackling my to-do lists with maximum focus, discipline and efficiency — without exploring the possibilities–without taking the time to think about whether the “yes” or “no” served me or those I love, whether it aligned with my core values or pointed me in the general direction of who I wanted to become.
When you think about it, both yes and no can be so limiting, especially with the fact that our time on earth is limited.
“Yes, I will do as you ask because I want to please you and not let you down,” but sometimes, that automatic people-pleaser-yes can limit your ability to do what you really want or take away your ability to stop and think about what you really want.
“No, I can’t do that because it’s not what I do,” or “because I’ve never done it,” etc. obviously limits growth and experiences.
So why is my blog entitled Meybe?
Because yes and no can be so limiting, and maybe is full of possibilities.
Because maybe can be that initial spark of inspiration that lights up your eyes or it can be that jolt of motivation that causes you to reach for a better version of yourself.
Because maybe speaks of the possibility of who you can become before allowing societal or self-imposed pressures dim the light. For me, maybe can be filled with so much joy and promise before over-analytical pros v. cons and to-do lists takes over.
And *shrug* because it’s a play on part of my name, Mey. This personal blog is a way for me to explore personal growth, who Mey is, who she is becoming –and share tangible tips that have helped Mey be – just in case, they can help you become one of your possibilities.
